Police search for suspect in deadly Fairfax Co. shooting

A 23-year-old man is dead after a shooting Saturday night in a Fairfax County, Virginia, apartment, and police have identified a suspect in the case. Officers found Alexandria resident Raphael Pierce shot in an apartment unit in the 7400 block of Vernon Square in Hybla Valley around 8:45 p.m. Saturday. Fairfax County Police said they were responding to a call from a neighbor who heard a loud argument followed by a gunshot. Police said Pierce was attending a small gathering at the apartment and started arguing with 40-year-old Alexandria resident Terence Butler, who shot Pierce and left in a dark-colored, 2013 Chevy Impala with Virginia tags URH-1176. The Impala has black rims and damage to the passenger side, according to police.

Police said Pierce and Butler knew each other, but they don’t know the full extent of their relationship. Officers have obtained a warrant for Butler and charged him with 2nd degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
