1 dead in Annandale shooting

One man is dead and another person is in a hospital following a shooting Friday night at an Annandale, Virginia, apartment complex, police said.

The shooting happened in the 4100 block of Wadsworth Court just before 11 p.m. Friday, according to Fairfax County police.

First responders found Anthony Isai Benitez, 18, of Fairfax, suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the complex. Despite efforts from Fairfax Fire and Rescue personnel, Benitez was pronounced dead at the scene.

A “juvenile male” was also injured in the incident and was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Benitez and the other victim were outside of an apartment building at the complex when a group approached them and started shooting at them.

After an autopsy, Benitez’s death was ruled a homicide.

Police said no arrests have been made. Anyone with information relating to the case is being asked to contact the department’s Major Crimes Bureau at (703)-246-7800, option 2.
