Prince George’s Co. officer dragged by fleeing suspect’s car

A Prince George’s County, Maryland, police officer has been hospitalized after being dragged by a runaway car Sunday, police said.

A police spokesman characterized the officer’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

The incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. on Cindy Lane near Central Avenue.

Police said a suspect’s car dragged the officer along the road after the officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested, and a hand gun was recovered during the arrest, police said.

Students in 2 Prince George’s Co. schools get technology upgrade

Telecommunications giant Verizon announced Wednesday that two schools in Prince George's County, Maryland, will join a program aimed at improving access to technology for students. The Samuel P. Massie Academy and the Nicholas Orem Middle School will become Verizon Innovative Learning Schools. Under the program developed with nonprofit Digital Promise, every student, teacher and administrator will receive an iPad complete with data plans that will allow student who don't have access at home to still be able to use the internet. The 30 gigabytes a month will be available year-round, and not just during the academic year.
