Man dead, 3 firefighters taken to hospital after Laurel house fire

A house fire Monday morning in Laurel, Maryland, left one man dead and sent three firefighters battling the flames to the hospital, Prince George’s County officials said. Officials said they arrived to heavy fire showing from outside a two-story house on Bond Mill Road near Park Hall Drive in West Laurel around 7:30 a.m.

Several hours later, the fire department said search crews located the body of a man at the scene after “extensive” work to make the interior of the home safe for the search crews. Shortly before noon, the fire department tweeted that the fire was out, while crews remained on scene to monitor hot spots. One Prince George’s County firefighter was injured and sent to the hospital, and two others were taken to the hospital to be checked out. All were treated and discharged just after 4 p.m. Authorities had said excessive storage conditions made it hard to navigate the home, and the first floor had already partially collapsed when they arrived. Howard, Anne Arundel and Montgomery counties also assisted in putting out the blaze.
