The northbound lanes of Interstate 270 in the area of Hyattstown, Maryland, reopened about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after an overturned tractor-trailer had the roadway closed for several hours.

Northbound traffic had been diverted onto Route 109, exit 22, through the afternoon.

The northbound lanes of I-270 were physically blocked between the Hyattstown and Urbana exits. The tractor-trailer was initially wedged between the guardrails.

Just before 3 p.m., the trailer was dislodged from one guardrail but remained on its side.

Northbound drivers were stuck between the diversion and the wreck itself, and needed to be turned around under police direction.

Fuel also spilled during the incident.

Around the area, just before 3:30 p.m., there was another crash involving another overturned tractor-trailer, this time on I-70 between Frederick and Myerstown.
