7 injured after shooting near U.Md. College Park campus

An off-campus shooting near the University of Maryland in Prince George’s County injured seven people late Saturday night. Prince George’s County police said gunfire erupted around 11 p.m. at a hotel in the 7700 block of Baltimore Avenue, near Campus Drive. Seven people were hit but experienced nonlife threatening injuries, all but two were released from a hospital by 1 p.m. Sunday. Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department released surveillance pictures of two persons of interest. A preliminary investigation showed the shooting happened at a party taking place in hotel room and suggested the shooting was targeted. Campus police alerted students and residents about the incident on Twitter, asking them to stay away from the area.

Hyattsville boy, 17, dies in Route 1 crash in Beltsville

A 17-year-old Hyattsville boy is dead and another is hospitalized after a crash Tuesday night on U.S. 1 in Beltsville, Maryland. Maryland State Police identified the driver who died as Lester Omar Perez-Solis, of Hyattsville.
