An 80-year-old man reportedly fatally shot his 78-year-old wife and then himself at a hospital in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, Friday.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday that Alexander Turella, 80, shot his wife, Pamela Turella, 78, in her room and then himself at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center on Friday morning.

Workers heard shots at about 9:15 a.m. and called 911, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said that when they got there, they found the dead in Turella’s room.

The hospital said in a statement through their Facebook page that its staff is “shaken and saddened” by the shooting.

“This was an isolated incident and we are assisting police on their investigation,” the statement said. “We will be providing resources, including counseling, to those who may be impacted by what they experienced.”
