Historic 1,511-acre Loudoun farm sells for nearly $3M above asking

A historic 1,511-acre farm in southwestern Loudoun County has sold for $15.6 million — and the buyer is doing everything he or she can to shield their name.

The acquisition of Upperville’s Cleremont Farm occurred through a Delaware limited liability corporation, and there is zero hint in those records of who’s behind it. The deal closed Sept. 1, according to public records. The buyer paid nearly $3 million above asking price.

Cleremont Farm comprises three farms — Cleremont, Bellefields and Ross — that were assembled over six decades by its previous owner, attorney George Horkan Jr., who died in 2001. The western boundary of the assemblage lies on the slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near Mount Weather, and the land sprawls from there to the south and east.

Sources familiar with the transaction have said that everyone involved was locked into a strict non-disclosure agreement, there was to be no publicity of the deal and the buyer wasn’t even present for closing…
