Charles Co. senior living facility fire displaces residents

A large fire Friday night at a senior living facility in Charles County, Maryland, has displaced residents.

It happened just before 10 p.m. at the Mandeville House Assisted Living Facility in Waldorf.

Eight residents were displaced, and nobody was hurt, the Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS said.

The fire is under control after dealing significant damage to the building. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Charles Co. schools cancels some indoor events, including homecoming dances

Officials with Charles County Public Schools in Maryland are limiting or canceling some upcoming indoor events and implementing tougher COVID-19 testing procedures to curb the spread of the pandemic. While students and staff will continue in-person learning, CCPS is canceling high school homecoming and middle school dances until further notice. Homecoming games, which take place outdoors, will still go ahead.
