1 dead in Montgomery Co. crash

One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County, Maryland, late Monday night.

A car struck a utility pole and caught fire at the intersection of Md. Route 190/River Road and Luvie Lane, trapping its driver just before 11 p.m. Monday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said on Twitter.

The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, died at the scene. Their identity had not been made public as of Tuesday morning.

The WTOP Traffic Center reports River Road reopened around 2 a.m. after a closure between Travilah Road and Dalyn Drive for a crash investigation.

Montgomery County hints at stronger COVID-19 safety measures, calls for rules from Hogan

Officials in Montgomery County, Maryland, said on Thursday that Gov. Larry Hogan needs to step up and offer statewide mandates as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in the state as well as the county. Hogan on Tuesday issued an order limiting capacity at bars and restaurants in Maryland to 50% from the previous 75%, and "strongly discouraging" indoor gatherings of more than 25 people.
