Bailey’s Crossroads crash leaves 2 dead

Two people are dead following a crash in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia, early Sunday.

Fairfax County police said a single vehicle was involved in the crash, which happened on Carlin Springs Road near Columbia Pike around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police confirmed one fatality in a tweet Sunday morning; on Sunday afternoon, they said the passenger, Maria Crowder, 29, of Maryland, died at the scene, while the driver, Byron Hines, 28, of Maryland, died later at a hospital.

The police said the car was headed north on Carlin Springs Road when it crossed into the southbound traffic lane, then sharply veered right, going off the road and hitting a tree.

Defense attorneys seek to move Bijan Ghaisar case to federal court

Attorneys representing the two U.S. Park Police officers charged in the 2017 shooting death of Bijan Ghaisar are seeking to move their cases to federal court. In two separate motions filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in Alexandria, attorneys for officers Lucas Vinyard and Alejandro Amaya said the officers were performing their duties as federal officers when Ghaisar, 25, of McLean, was shot after a car chase on the George Washington Parkway in 2017.
