Employees with 17 contractors working on Reagan National Airport’s massive capital improvement project have tested positive for Covid-19, according to a staff report issued ahead of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s upcoming board meeting.

The workers are confirmed or presumed to have the virus, the report states. The most recent positive result was confirmed June 7.

MWAA’s Project Journey includes two main components, the construction of a new 14-gate north concourse — to replace Gate 35X, which has temporarily closed with the recent collapse of air traffic due to the pandemic — and the shift of National Hall behind new security checkpoints.

The June staff report is the third since March on Project Journey, but the first to report confirmed cases of the virus among contractors. An MWAA spokesperson declined to answer questions, saying it “will be discussed in further detail in Wednesday’s board committee meeting.”
