Man arrested after stabbing killed 1, injured 2 in Montgomery Co.

A man has been charged in connection to the death of a woman and the assault of two other people at a Montgomery County, Maryland, home on Monday.

Biet Van Tran, 63, of the White Oak area, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault. He is being held without bond.

Montgomery County police responded to a residence in the 900 block of Balmoral Drive near Francis Scott Key Middle School around 3:20 p.m., after a neighbor reported what was believed to be a stabbing.

Officers found a 23-year-old woman dead inside the home. Another woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries related to a stabbing, while emergency personnel also treated a man for assault-related injuries on the scene.

The suspect, who police said lives in the 900 block of Balmoral Drive, was found at the scene and immediately arrested.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the three victims are from out of state and had been staying at a residence on Balmoral Drive for a few days.

Police are investigating the suspect’s connection to the three victims but do not currently believe that he was involved in a domestic relationship with any of them.

The identity of the deceased had not been made public as of Tuesday afternoon as family are notified.
