Maryland man dead after tractor-trailer strikes him on I-270

A man is dead after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 270 in Maryland’s Frederick County.

It happened just before 4 a.m. Thursday on northbound Interstate 270 before Maryland Route 80 in Urbana.

Eric M. Sugrowe, 26, of Urbana, Maryland, died on the scene. He was walking in the roadway when he was hit by the vehicle, Maryland State Police said.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene of the crash, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Maryland’s Frederick County schools to have all-virtual start

The Frederick County, Maryland, school board decided Wednesday on an all-virtual first semester for the upcoming school year, which starts Aug. 31. Frederick County Public Schools said after feedback from students, parents and staff, it would offer a number of improvements for the fall, including more real-time interactions between teachers and students, continued efforts to make sure each student is connected digitally and more support for teachers in the all-virtual environment.
