Ambar’s Barracks Row location will close later this month to undergo an intensive, more than $3 million renovation that will double its size.

The restaurant, which has landed three times on Michelin’s Bib Gourmand list, will grow from two floors to three, while the first and second floors will be expanded by 400 square feet each. The kitchen will be expanded and the restaurant’s entire interior will be remodeled.

All told, Ambar will grow from 3,000 square feet to 6,000 square feet once the work is complete. Its last day for service prior to the renovation will be Jan. 26, with a tentative reopening scheduled for March 23.

The new third floor will function as a summer garden open year-round with a retractable roof and its own kitchen, said Ivan Iricanin, founder and CEO of Street Guys Hospitality, which owns Ambar and its building at 523 Eighth St. SE.
