Morgan State University is looking to bring a medical school to its Baltimore campus through a new partnership.

The school’s board of regents has authorized President David Wilson to pursue the opportunity to construct a new College of Osteopathic Medicine at Morgan State through a strategic partnership. The university intends to partner with Salud Education LLC, a firm that has helped erect other such colleges, including at New Mexico State University, to support a mission of training more primary care physicians in the U.S. With the board’s approval, Wilson has issued an official letter of intent for the partnership.

Wilson said the project has been in the works for about two years, since Salud approached Morgan State about adding the new college. The medical school, which would offer doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees, could be up and running as early as 2023, pending additional regulatory steps.
