Brookland affordable housing development scores a DC funding first

A residential development in Brookland designed to reach some of the Distrct’s lowest income residents just became the first project in the city to win cash from a new federal funding source targeted at affordable housing.

Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration announced Wednesday that Lock7 Development’s project at 1736 Rhode Island Ave. NE is in line to receive $3.2 million through the National Housing Trust Fund. Bowser’s office says the development, dubbed “The Rollins,” is the first affordable housing project in the District to earn cash through program since it took effect in 2016.

“While we continue to make historic affordable housing investments here in the District, we know we can’t address the growing housing crisis alone — the federal government also must step up,” Bowser wrote in a statement. “We appreciate the National Housing Trust Fund and urge Congress to expand federal programs that help our most vulnerable residents.”

The Bottom Line, Shaw’s Tavern seek to add on-site sports betting

Downtown D.C. mainstay The Bottom Line and Shaw’s Tavern on Florida Avenue NW have applied for sports betting licenses, according to D.C.’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration. Both establishments are planning to use a mobile application available only on their premises to take bets, according to ABRA’s protest notices. There are no plans for physical betting kiosks at either location.
