The construction on Rock Creek Parkway at the Kennedy Center finished early Saturday and roads were reopened around 8 p.m.

The span of Rock Creek and Potomac parkways was closed 8 p.m. Friday and was expected to remain closed until Monday morning. However, thanks to a “very early start, excellent site coordination and a fortunate change in the weather, the work was completed early,” a spokesman for the Kennedy Center said in a statement.

The portion of Rock Creek Trail that was also closed, opened at 3:30 p.m., as soon as cranes stopped hoisting materials.

The roads were closed to vehicles between Virginia Avenue Northwest and the Interstate 66/Potomac River Freeway interchange behind the Lincoln Memorial. For bicyclists and pedestrians, roads was closed between F Street Northwest at the Kennedy Center and the Roosevelt Bridge.

The closures are related to the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the parkway, part of the Kennedy Center’s REACH expansion, which is due to open Sept. 7.
