Pedestrian in Montgomery Co. struck by police cruiser

WASHINGTON — A man is in critical condition after being hit by a police car Thursday night in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Around 9:30 p.m., an officer driving a marked cruiser on Georgia and Arcola avenues hit a man who was walking in the road, Montgomery County police said. It was not far from the Westfield mall in Wheaton.

The officer was not responding to an emergency and did not have their emergency lights on at the time of the incident.

The collision happened in an area without any crosswalks.

The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officials began an investigation into the incident, but it was not immediately clear how the crash happened.

Person missing at flooded Rockville apartments was out of town

As the Red Cross assists the residents flooded out of their apartments in Rockville, there's a little bit of good news about one resident who lived in the Rock Creek Woods apartment complex in the Maryland city. The person who was unaccounted for as flash flood waters filled apartments Wednesday contacted police and is safe and unharmed.
