Northwest man arrested, charged in fatal 14th Street stabbing

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man is in custody after a fatal stabbing Friday afternoon in Northwest.

Alton Rivers, 54, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 68-year-old Anthony Anderson, also of Northwest.

The stabbing occurred in the 3600 block of 14th Street Northwest, D.C. police said in a statement Friday night. At around 4:30 p.m., an off-duty D.C. officer witnessed an assault in progress. That officer detained Rivers, and another officer who had been flagged down took him into custody, police said.

D.C. Fire and EMS also responded and treated Anderson, who had sustained multiple stab wounds, and took him to an area hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
