WASHINGTON — After heavy rains intermittently hit the east coast last Saturday, one unlucky Charles County osprey ended up dangling in a tree more than 50 feet from the ground, stuck in a large amount of fishing line.

Cobb Island locals were quick to jump to the rescue.

College student Anna Pence, 19, posted on Facebook about her experience.

She said she has done multiple ride-alongs with officers from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and hopes to work as one after she finishes her degree.

According to her post, which was shared by the Maryland Natural Resources Police Facebook page, Pence contacted multiple local agencies for help, but none were able to.

After about an hour of dead-ends, she contacted David Stine, owner of C.I.W. Tree Services. He brought his company’s bucket truck to the scene, which was used to bring the osprey down from the tree to safety.

Pence wrote that untangling the osprey from the fishing line was another challenge. By then, a Maryland Department of Natural Resources officer — Cpl. Cary — had arrived to help.

The osprey was transported to a rehabilitation center and is expected to fully recover.
