Flooding damage closes southern end of Md. light rail system

HALETHORPE, Md. (AP) — Flood damage has closed the southern end of the Baltimore region’s light rail system for at least two weeks.

Maryland Transit Administration officials announced in a statement Monday that Saturday’s heavy rains caused erosion along sections of track.

Service has been suspended from the Patapsco station to the Cromwell and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport stations. A free bus will stop at all affected stations.

Officials say service is expected to be suspended for two weeks, but that timeframe depends on weather conditions. More rain is in the forecast over the next few days.

Maryland seeks contractors for next phase of Key Bridge replacement project

The Maryland Transportation Authority this week began the formal process of finding a contractor for the next phase of the Francis Scott Key Bridge replacement, after parting ways with the phase one contractor over costs this spring. The authority Tuesday issued a request for qualifications, or RFQ, from prospective contractors on the major part of the replacement project: construction of the main span bridge and of marine approaches of the bridge, which will straddle the shipping channel into the Port of Baltimore.
