DC mom describes last moments of 10-year-old daughter shot at apt. complex

WASHINGTON — Ten-year-old girl Makiyah Wilson, of Northeast D.C., was killed Monday when four suspects opened fire on a crowd of people at an apartment complex.

Four other people were hurt in the shooting.

Makiyah had just returned from the pool Monday when she was shot. Even as she lay dying in her mother’s arms, Makiyah’s mother, Donnetta Wilson, told NBC Washington that her daughter calmed her down, saying that her wound was only burning. Makiyah died a few moments later.
