WASHINGTON — A Southeast D.C. man is facing several charges after he assaulted a police officer in Fairfax County.

It happened on Friday around 3 p.m. at a shopping center on the 8200 block of Russell Road in the Alexandria area.

A Fairfax County police officer stopped 23-year-old Dadrian Jegede, who smelled distinctly of marijuana, a news release said.

Jegede walked away and when the officer tried to stop him, Jegede began “physically resisting and pushed the officer away.”

Video surveillance showed the officer asking Jegede to stop and put his hands behind his back and Jegede refusing to comply. There were several people who watched the interaction between them.

The officer, who was alone, asked for assistance and a nearby officer arrived. The two officers detained Jegede and arrested him.

Jegede was arrested on charges of assault of a law enforcement officer and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. There is an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court from Prince William County, as well.

There is an internal investigation in compliance with all use of force incidents, the news release said.
