WASHINGTON — A single-vehicle crash in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Thursday morning sent two children flying from an SUV, the police said.

The accident happened just before 2 a.m. on Route 210 (Indian Head Highway) near Fort Washington Road.

“The vehicle was traveling northbound, and for reasons that remain under investigation, struck a guardrail,” said Officer Ameera Abdullah. “Two of the occupants, who are children, were ejected from the vehicle.”

In all, there were three children and two adults in the SUV. All of them are expected to recover.

“All the occupants were taken to the hospital and they have non-life threatening injuries,” Abdullah said.

The crash investigation caused the closure of a northbound section of Indian Head Highway for a few hours early Thursday. Major backups stretched for miles around, but quickly dissipated once the road was reopened.

“Hearing that two children were ejected from a vehicle definitely is serious, but the fact that they’re OK is good for all involved,” Abdullah said.
