WASHINGTON — Verizon Wireless customers in Northern Virginia can now reach 911 after a morning of glitches to the emergency call system.

Verizon Wireless experienced an outage that impacted the emergency call number and 10-digit dialing in Alexandria and multiple counties, including Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William counties.

In a 10:40 a.m. tweet, Prince William County said the 911 call center issues appear to be resolved. Anyone experiencing issues reaching the emergency number can text 911 or use the non-emergency line at 703-792-6500.

At about 10 a.m. Fairfax County’s 911 center said it had established a “temporary work-around solution to allow residents to call 911 directly.” If callers experience any issues getting through, they should continue to text 911 or try another service provider.

The outage also affected the Alexandria Police non-emergency number, 703-746-4444.
