WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals’ bragging rights for being Stanley Cup Champions will last at least a year. How long will it take to pay off Tuesday’s rally and parade? That’s not so clear.

Preliminary estimates put the total cost of Tuesday’s festivities are between $380,000 and $400,000 city spokeswoman LaToya Foster said.

Events DC, which is funded through tourism-related taxes, is picking up a quarter-million of the bill.

At Tuesday’s rally, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser thanked everyone who helped make the parade a success, focusing on the police, fire and public works departments:

“I want to thank all of the people that not only have helped us have a wonderful parade — but remember when you filled the streets of Washington, D.C., when our team was 2,400 miles away — they kept us safe.”
