WASHINGTON — Valerie Ervin will be dropping out of the Democratic race for governor and will throw her support behind Rushern L. Baker III.

Ervin and Baker are planning to make a joint announcement Wednesday morning in Langley Park, near one of the Purple Line stops, at 11 a.m.

A spokesperson says in a news release that the location is symbolic, “because the Hogan administration made deep cuts to the Purple Line project, which caused significant delays in launching its construction and potentially costing Maryland taxpayers more.”

The announcement will come after a Maryland judge blocked Ervin’s attempts to force a ballot change. Election officials argued the ballot could not be changed because there was not enough time before the June 26 primary.

Ervin announced she was running after her running mate, Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, who was originally vying for the governor’s seat — died suddenly in early Mary at age 60.
