WASHINGTON — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford officially announced their re-election campaign in Annapolis on Saturday.

Hogan cited his record of funding education, cutting taxes and the economic growth the state has experienced while he has been in office.

“If we can make all this progress while dealing with riots and battling cancer, just imagine what we’re going to get done in the next four years,” he said.

A recent poll that asked who Democrats would vote for if the election was held today found that more than 50 percent of Democratic voters would vote for Hogan, even though he is a Republican.

That poll, and other polls showing he has a high approval rating, was something he touted during his announcement.

“Maybe they should just consider letting us do this job for another four years,” he said.

Nine Democrats are running for the Democratic nomination for governor, while Hogan is running unopposed on the Republican side.

Maryland’s primary is on June 26.
