WASHINGTON — Fans went wild as the Washington Capitals made history and captured the Stanley Cup for the first time ever. Inside Capital One Area, they screamed. They waved rally towels. They hugged strangers. WTOP’s Michelle Basch was there at the watch party. Inside the arena, fans sang “We Are the Champions.”

Outside the arena at the All Caps Watch Party, fans cried. They danced in the streets. WTOP’s Kristi King was there. Some of those folks stayed out all night on the District’s streets. WTOP’s John Domen catches up with fans after the street-sweepers wrapped up Friday morning. Fans are not hesitating to scoop up Stanley Cup gear early Friday. And the party-planning has started to celebrate the win. NBC Washington’s Jackie Bensen took to the energetic D.C. streets following Game 5.
