Police investigate water-related death at Sandy Point State Park

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating what they call a “water-related” death at Sandy Point State Park in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police Department said it received a call around 11:30 p.m. Friday reporting that 50-year-old Melquicedec Coreas-Gomez of Glen Burnie, Maryland, was missing. He had been fishing with two other men. When they returned to shore, Coreas-Gomez stayed with the boat while the other two went back to get their truck and trailer. When the men returned, Coreas-Gomez was missing. Divers from Anne Arundel County found him in the water, but could not resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

1 tornado confirmed in Anne Arundel County during Tuesday’s storms

At least one tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, during Tuesday's storms in the D.C. region. An EF-1 tornado landed in Lake Shore near Patapsco Road at 6:15 p.m. NWS officials determined that the estimated peak winds of the tornado was 100 mph. The twister was on the ground for two minutes as it was around three-quarters of mile long and 160 yards wide.
