MOM’s opens in Gaithersburg. Bring your old glasses and cellphones

WASHINGTON — Rockville,Maryland-based MOM’s Organic Market will open its 19th location Friday in Gaithersburg, and the Maryland store, like many of its others, will have an increasingly diverse recycling program.

The new, 16,000-square-foot store at 10 Upper Rock Circle holds its grand opening Friday through Sunday.

It will have a Naked Lunch, all organic vegetarian breakfast and lunch counter found in several of its other locations, and will have a backyard beekeeping section with tools for home beekeeping, a hobby MOM’s founder Scott Nash is passionate about.

The Gaithersburg location will have free electric car charging stations, a tire inflation station, a green roof that helps reduce stormwater runoff and an extensive recycling program.

The recycling center takes corks, eyeglasses, cellphones, household batteries, shoes and plastic bags.

MOM’s marks its 31st anniversary this summer. Nash started the business as an organic delivery company in his mother’s Rockville garage.

Its stores are located in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Should you buy a house with cash?

High mortgage interest rates may have you exploring alternative ways of buying your home that don't require a loan. And while the competition for a new home may not be what it was in 2021, for the right home you may still need to work to get a leg up on the competition. If you have the means, an all-cash offer is a great way to fast-track a deal and avoid the additional costs that come with a mortgage. A seller is more likely to accept your offer, and the success of the deal isn't reliant on a lender's OK following an appraisal. You'll also own the home outright after the transaction with no mortgage to pay each month.
