WASHINGTON — A man assaulted outside his District Heights, Maryland, home in January who wound up with a brain injury has died, and police in Prince George’s County say the death has been ruled a homicide.

Robert Proctor, 62, of Pumphrey Drive in District Heights, was assaulted Jan. 11 after a verbal argument with another person, police said in a news release. At the time, Proctor didn’t seek medical attention and several days later he was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a brain injury, police said.

Procter died April 5 at a rehabilitation center, police said, and an autopsy confirmed he died of complications from the head injury.

Police said investigators have “very strong leads” in the case, and they do not believe it was a random crime.
