Boy dies after accident at Fairfax Co. school

WASHINGTON — A 9-year-old boy has died after what’s being called a tragic accident at Franconia Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia.

Wesley Lipicky was in the school’s gym at around 4:45 p.m., Friday, through the School Age Child Care program, Fairfax County police said.

The child and a teacher simultaneously pressed a button to open a motorized room partition that splits in the middle.

Police say the boy was caught between the partition and a wall and suffered traumatic head injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital later Friday night.

An autopsy determined the boy’s death was accidental, according to Fairfax County police.

No charges are expected in this case.
