WASHINGTON — A D.C. man who pleaded guilty to killing two housemates received a 33-year prison sentence Friday.

David Bright, 31, had been accused of fatally shooting both Clifton Francis and David Watkins in the afternoon hours of Feb. 18, 2016, inside their Northeast D.C. rooming house.

Authorities said Bright walked into a living room where the two were watching TV and opened fire at close range. Another housemate, who was also threatened, escaped to a bedroom.

Bright then fled the house, located in the 500 block of 58th Street Northeast, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office. The next morning, Bright was captured at a barbershop in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, where he had just had his dreadlocks shaven off.

Police said they found a handgun, 91 rounds of ammo and three ammunition magazines in the car Bright had been driving.

Back in February, he pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court to two counts of second-degree murder while armed.
