WASHINGTON — Officials in the flooded city of Frederick, Maryland, are asking residents to limit their use of water. The city’s wastewater treatment plant is “inundated and at risk of additional overflow,” a spokesman said in a news release. To avoid backups and to be able to safely treat wastewater, residents should refrain from nonessential water use, such as washing clothes and dishes.

If there is a sewer backup, call the department of public works at 301-600-1440. They also advise residents to avoid the area of Carroll Creek near the confluence of the Monocacy River due to potential sewer overflows.
