WASHINGTON — A man wanted for first-degree murder after his wife was found dead in their Silver Spring, Maryland, home last month was recently arrested in Mexico, police said.

Ruel Francis Dempster II, 30, was arrested in the area of Nuevo Laredo in Mexico, close to the U.S.-Mexico border, by Mexican authorities on the strength of a Montgomery County warrant. Montgomery County police were notified of the arrest Sunday, police said in a statement.

After a family member could not get in touch with Dempster and his wife, 34-year-old Alice Mino Dennis, for several days, police conducted a welfare check at the couple’s home in the 3600 block of Bel Pre Road.

On April 18, Dennis was found dead on the kitchen floor of their apartment with trauma to the upper body. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Dempster’s whereabouts were unknown, and many of his personal items were gone from the home, police said. They believe Dempster killed Dennis after a domestic dispute.

Police said Dempster was extradited to the U.S. and will return to Montgomery County when the domestic extradition process is complete.
