Beer of the Week: Allagash Belfius Wild Ale

WASHINGTON — It came from outer space! Sort of.

WTOP’s Brennan Haselton is joined by Neighborhood Restaurant Group Beer Director and Food and Wine Sommelier of the Year Greg Engert to talk about Allagash Belfius Wild Ale for the latest edition of WTOP’s Beer of the Week.

Quick facts:

  • Brewery: Allagash Brewing Co., Portland, Maine
  • Brewery Description: Belfius combines two of Belgium’s well-known beer styles: a spontaneously fermented ale and a saison. Together, they create a golden beer with an herbal aroma that contains both spice and tart fruit.
  • ABV: 6.7 percent
  • Greg’s pairing suggestions: Thai food, simply prepared grilled fish (such as pan-seared halibut), roast chicken with arugula salad and roasted veggies on the side.
