News for all the Wawa watchers out there: The popular convenience store chain will open in Tenleytown.

The Media, Pennsylvania-based chain known for its quick-service hoagies has signed a lease for approximately 7,000 square feet right next to the Tenleytown station on Metro’s Red Line. The space, which is owned by the Pedas family, was formerly home to a Sears appliance showroom and a dental office. CBRE Vice President John Filipos represented Wawa in the deal and Jared Meier of CBRE/Streetsense represented the Pedas family.

The location will sit at street level below the Whole Foods Market parking garage at the corner of Albemarle and 40th streets NW, near a slew of bus stops for both Metrobuses and American University and other shuttles.

The store will be a little more neighborhood-centric than the first Wawa that opened in the District, which is near K Street, centrally located in the downtown business district. But the chain has had success with the more neighborhoody stores…
