WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police are investigating accusations that members of a high school baseball team were involved in hazing, and the team’s coach has resigned.

Police said the accusations of hazing and sexual abuse involve baseball players at West Potomac High School in Alexandria, Virginia.

Officer Tara Gerhard said her department is working with the commonwealth’s attorney to determine if there will be any charges. There is no timeline regarding how soon a decision would be made, Gerhard said.

Fairfax County Public Schools conducted its own investigation. Schools spokesman John Torre said it has ended and disciplinary actions were taken.

Though the baseball team’s coach Jim Sullivan has resigned, Torre said it has nothing to do with the school investigation.

In a letter to baseball parents, the school’s principal wrote that Sullivan’s departure “stems from a difference of opinion related to the future direction of the baseball program.”
