WASHINGTON — The 17-year-old ex-boyfriend of Jholie Moussa, whose body was found in a Fairfax County, Virginia, park two weeks after she disappeared, will go on trial for a separate, earlier assault on the 16-year-old girl.

Moussa was last seen Jan. 12, when she told her twin sister she had to leave their home to do an errand. Later, her family got a confusing text that said Moussa was going to a party in Norfolk, Virginia.

Two weeks later, her body was recovered in Woodlawn Park, near the family home.

Soon after Moussa’s death, Fairfax County police first learned of an earlier, unreported assault on the girl, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend.

On Jan. 30 the boy was arrested on the charge of felony assault. Fairfax County authorities are not publicly naming the juvenile.

He remains a person of interest in Moussa’s murder.

NBC Washington reports a judge held a closed hearing Monday on the strangulation hearing. After hearing testimony from several witnesses, the judge determined there was enough evidence for the case to move forward.

The teenager is free before trial, outfitted with a GPS monitoring device.
