WASHINGTON — Fire crews rescued three woman from a house fire in D.C.’s Grant Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., D.C. Fire and EMS responded to a house fire in the 5700 block of Clay Street in Northeast where smoke was showing from the front basement window. Arriving crews received reports of people trapped inside the house, too, said D.C. Fire spokesman Vito Maggiolo.

Firefighters removed three women from the house — one of whom was in a wheelchair. She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and smoke inhalation, Maggiolo said.

The two others were treated on scene and did not require transport to a hospital, Maggiolo said.

The fire displaced four residents and one dog, D.C Fire & EMS tweeted.

Officials have not released any additional details about the fire at this time, including what caused the fire or the estimated cost of damage to the house.
