WASHINGTON — A Prince George’s County, Maryland, corrections officer is accused of torturing and trying to kill his wife in their Charles County home.

Armando Quispe Rodriguez, 45, was arrested late Monday. He’s being held without bond on charges that include attempted murder, first-degree assault and false imprisonment.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, a man called 911 just before 2 p.m. Friday to report that he and his wife had been stabbed.

When officers responded to the home in the 2500 block of Archway Lane in Bryans Road, Maryland, they found Rodriguez with cuts on his hands. They also found his wife in the basement with multiple stab wounds.

Investigators determined that Rodriguez had attacked his wife in her sleep, binding her ankles in shackles, handcuffing her, and stabbing her repeatedly with a knife over several hours.

“It appears that she had been stabbed more than 20 times,” said Diane Richardson of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodriguez is also accused of putting a plastic bag over his wife’s head and trying to strangle her with a belt.

The woman remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The two were taken to separate hospitals, and Rodriguez was arrested late Monday upon his release from a hospital.

A bond review hearing for Rodriguez is scheduled for Wednesday.
