WASHINGTON — Seemingly healthy for the first time in a number of years, Tiger Woods announced Monday he will play at his foundation’s tournament this June in Potomac, Maryland.
The four-time Masters champion said he will return to the Washington, D.C.-area for the first time since 2015.
After back surgery in 2017, Woods has played five tournaments so far in 2018 and made the cut four times, with his best finish coming March 11 at the Valspar Championship in Florida.
The tournament will be held at TPC Potomac in Montgomery County for the second time. It runs from June 25 to July 1.
Proceeds from Woods’ tournament benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation, which directs money to college access programs and the Earl Woods Scholarship Program.
Kyle Stanley won last year’s The National over Charles Howell III in one-hole playoff.
Tickets, starting at $15, are on sale now at the tournament’s website.
Woods has won the tournament twice: in 2009 and 2012.
“I am really looking forward to being back in the D.C.-area this summer playing in The National,” Woods said in a statement. “As a two-time champion of this event benefiting my foundation, The National has always been a special event for me.”
