WASHINGTON — After a three-year investigation, a suspended Prince George’s County police officer was indicted by a federal grand jury Friday on mail fraud charges.

Adrian Brown, 33, was taken into custody and placed on administrative leave without pay.

From September 2014 through January 2015, Brown was involved in a scheme to defraud a car insurance company.

The FBI and Prince George’s County investigators began an investigation into Brown in the fall of 2015, when his “police powers were suspended,” police said.

“This represents the conclusion of a more than three year investigation. It illustrates the fact that this department takes accountability extraordinarily seriously,” Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said. “The conduct of this individual does not represent the integrity of the men and women of this institution.”
