Maryland State Police to hold fitness challenge next month

WASHINGTON — The Maryland State Police want to know if you have what it takes to be an officer.

The department is holding the “Maryland’s Finest Fitness Challenge,” designed by experienced Maryland State Police officers, in Assateague State Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7.

The free challenge was created to be a difficult, 3-mile obstacle course. It will utilize tough terrains that simulate the physical conditioning training done by real police officers, and it will be run by Maryland State Police Academy trainers.

While designed for a day of entertainment, the fitness challenge course includes all aspects of the Maryland State Police Functional Fitness Assessment Test used in actual police training.

The department encourages participants to bring family and friends for support.

The event page promises an appearance from the Maryland State Police mascot, as well as Maryland State Police troopers to answer questions about having a career with the department. Among the police divisions at the event will be the K-9 unit, Aviation Command and the Forensic Sciences Division.

Register for free on the event’s website.
