WASHINGTON — Mourners gathered in Brandywine, Maryland, to remember a Prince George’s County police officer who died helping a neighbor.

Supporters lit candles and released white balloons Wednesday at the Chadds Ford Community Center to honor Mujahid Ramzziddin. His wife, Tammi, told the crowd that she was “beyond heartbroken,” and she cries for all the lost dreams of growing old together with her husband.

“I lost my love. I lost my everything. My heart is shattered into millions of pieces,” Tammi said.

Those who knew him say that Ramzziddin was a “family person, a people person, a man with the biggest heart,” and that he was “always cheerful, always kind, always giving.”

“It matters that he stood his ground and defended his neighbor,” Prince George’s County police Chief Hank Stawinski told the crowd.

The 51-year-old police officer was shot five times with a shotgun by Glenn Tyndell, 37, on Feb. 21,  while he was off duty and intervening in a domestic dispute between Tyndell and his wife in Brandywine.

Tyndell, who fled with Ramzziddin’s service pistol, led police on a chase through Prince George’s and Charles counties. He was holding Ramzziddin’s gun and fired two shots at two other officers, when he was shot and killed on MD-210.

Ramzziddin was posthumously promoted from corporal to sergeant.
