WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police are looking the driver of a car that hit a mother and her 12-year-old daughter on Saturday night.

Police said the mother and girl were crossing Columbia Pike near Tyler Street in the Bailey’s Crossroads area of Fairfax County at around 10 p.m., when they were struck.

The car, believed to be a dark blue, newer-model Mercedes did not stop or return to the scene, police said.

Both the mother and child were taken the hospital; the mom was treated for minor injuries and released while the girl is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.

Detectives who are investigating the crash do not believe speed was a factor. Even though both the mother and child were walking in a marked crosswalk, police point out that it was dark and heavily raining at the time of the crash.
