26 rescued from stalled elevator on Massachusetts Ave.

WASHINGTON — Twenty-six people were trapped in a stalled service elevator Thursday evening in the 900 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW.

D.C. Fire and EMS arrived around 6 p.m. to free those stuck inside.

Spokesman Vito Maggiolo said the number of people in the elevator was precisely why it stalled.

Everyone who was freed from the elevator was evaluated.

Five were taken to the hospital for checkups.
