WASHINGTON — A Stafford County man is accused of trying to scam Walmart out of more than $1,800 worth of Lego toys.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Christopher Lee-Edward Taylor ordered several boxes of Lego on Walmart’s website and then returned the boxes to a store with the wrong items inside.

Authorities said Taylor returned boxes of Legos he’d purchased online to the Walmart on Garrisonville Road in Stafford three times over December and January.

Twice Taylor was reimbursed with a Walmart gift card and once on his Visa card. The scam returns totaled $1,857, authorities said.

Employees only discovered later that the boxes Taylor returned did not actually contain the advertised contents, authorities said.

A sheriff’s deputy then found matching Lego sets being sold on eBay without boxes under an account listed to Taylor.

Taylor has been charged with three felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.
